Willow Creek Lutheran Church 1885-Centennial 1985

The Willow Creek Lutheran Church at Overly, No. Dak. was organized Oct. 25, 1885. The Present building was erected in 1896 and was located one- and one-half mile south of town. The Cornerstone was laid Nov. 9, 1898. In 1920 the church was moved to present site in Overly. It was dedicated June 29, 1920, by Pres. D. Stoeve. Rev. Theodore Tonneson was the first resident pastor from July 1886 to 1890, and intermittently in 1891. Pastor C.D. Eikenes served as pastor from 1893 to 1930. He was followed by Pastors O.E. Engebretson, C.T. Paulson, E.J.K. Kristenson, P.L. Larson, David Genter, Manuel Johnson, D.N. Saathoff, L.D. Nelson, and J. Lee, our present pastor. In the fall of 1951, a project was begun to add a full basement. This was dedicated and the cornerstone relaid on May 10, 1953, by Dr. Tallakson.
