1884-1984
In January of 1844 a Presbyterian missionary camped on the site of the present United Methodist Church building and for some time preached to the Indians of the area. In 1866, James M. Thomas organized the Methodist Episcopal Church in the territory bordering on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, before it became Thief River Falls, Minnesota. The Church pictured was built in 1969, located on North Horace Avenue and First Street.
The Presbyterian Congregation merged with the Methodist Episcopal Congregation on November 20, 1927, and became known as Community Methodist. It is now known as the United Methodist Church. The United Methodist Church welcomes to its family of worshipers all who honor God and desire to serve God and their fellowmen. This unique Church and worship center was built while Rev. Merrill M. Harris was the pastor. The present pastors are Rev. Melvyn R. Budke and Rev. Bernard R. Lewellin.
