Lisbon, North Dakota 1964 Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon, North Dakota Trinity Lutheran Church was organized as the Lisbon Scandinavian Lutheran Free Church in 1888. The congregation along with Zion and St. Paul congregations formed one parish during 1919. In 1920 the name was changed to Trinity Lutheran Church. A second church building was dedicated in 1921. Lisbon, North Dakota 1888-1988 Trinity Lutheran Church 1888 100th Anniversary 1988 Swedish & Norwegian pioneers decided to join together in their church services & activities. In 1888 the Lisbon Scandinavian Lutheran Free Church was formed. In 1893 the South End School was purchased for $400.00, a steeple was erected & the church furnished. In 1920 the congregation's name was changed to Trinity Lutheran Church. In 1921, the church building on Oak Street was dedicated. In 1964, Trinity, Zion & St. Paul Congregations joined together as Trinity Lutheran Church and dedicated the present church building. Info from - back of Trinity Lutheran Church plate |
The Trinity Lutheran Church
Swedish and Norwegian pioneers in Lisbon decided to join together in their church services and activities and in 1882 they formed the Scandinavian Lutheran Church with the Rev. Louis C. Hill serving as their pastor from 1882 until 1892.
Formal organization of the congregation came in 1888 when the Lisbon Scandinavian Lutheran Free Congregation was formed.
In 1892 the congregation purchased the south end schoolhouse for $400 and moved it to the northwest corner of 7th Avenue and Oak Street. A steeple was erected, and the church was furnished.
By 1919, the parish was rearranged to include the Zion and St. Paul congregations, and the congregation had outgrown its building. A new brick building was constructed on the same site and was first used in 1920. During 1920, the name of the church was changed to the Trinity Lutheran Church, and the parish was admitted to membership in the Evangelical Lutheran Church Synod.
In 1944, a pipe organ was installed in the church and in 1957, interns from the Seminary were engaged by the church to assist the pastors.
