Stordahl Lutheran Church Galesburg, ND Organized 1881
On June 6, 1881, a group of pioneers felt the need to organize a Christian Congregation. Under Pastor Bersvend Anderson, the Constitution was adopted according to the form used in the Hauge Synod and was named "Stordahl Congregation". The building of a church was on the hearts and minds of the members and had been their prayers as they met in homes and later in a schoolhouse for services. Their prayer was answered when in 1899 our church structure was completed. In 1948 our Constitution was changed, and our church became affiliated with the Lutheran Free Church. The same year members, under the leadership of Pastor Gjerde, did a complete remodeling of our church. Other pastors who have served the Congregation are G. Evanson 1882 J. Nesheim 1883-1890 B. Reitan 1890-1894 M. Njust 1894-1897 H. Hjertaas 1898-1904 O.J. Malkevik 1904-1916 M.B. Sveen 1917-1926 Olaf Braseth 1928-1940 Manley Gjerde 1940-1952 Present Pastor, W. Stjordalen congregation was organized on July 22, 1882, at the home of Arent Lee. The Rev. C. J. M. Grnlid of Hatton, who served as pastor of the congregation until 1895, was the organizing pastor.
In 1895, the congregation purchases a church building from St. John's, Hatton. The building was razed and then reassembled in its present location under the direction of Lorentz Tratli. A new pastor, the Rev. Louis S. Marvick, arrived in time to officiate with Pastors Albert Johansen, O. K. Quamme, B. Tollefson, and S. O. Braaten in laying the cornerstone on Sept. 8, 1895. Pastor Marvick, who served until 1902, also introduced occasional English services, a radical innovation at the time.
The pastors serving Stjordalen were from the Hatton parish. In 1923, however, a new parish was formed of Stjordalen and Zion and St. Olafs churches in Reynolds, with the pastor residing in Reynolds. The first pastor called to this new parish was the Rev. M. O. Ensberg, who served until 1931.
Recently the need for adequate classroom space required the building of an educational unit, which was dedicated on May 15, 1960, during the pastorate of the Rev. Victor Gilbertson who served the parish from 1953 to 1963.

On January 9 and 10, 1898, a two-day meeting was held in the new structure.
In 1948, the constitution was changed to affiliate with the Lutheran Free Church. In September 1962, a merger with the American Lutheran Church was approved, becoming effective on February 1, 1963. In 1970, it was decided to become a two-point parish with the Aurdal Congregation in Portland, after fifty-three years of being a three-point parish, including the Aal Church near Mayville.
At the present time, membership of the Stordahl Church is forty-four families, ninety-seven persons. Pastor Omar Nelson serves the congregation.
