St. Lawrence Catholic Church

1912-1987
The first Catholic Church in Flasher area was SS. Peter and Paul, built in 1906, in an entirely rural area called Fallen. It was located seven miles east and three miles north of Flasher. This church was closed in 1963.
On December 11, 1912, thirteen families with the help of Father Neibler obtained incorporation for the small parish, now named St. Lawrence Church, as a mission of Fallen.
In 1922, Father John Selder was assigned first resident pastor of St. Lawrence and was replaced in 1941 by Father Joseph Poettgens. The first St. Lawrence Church, built in 1913, was destr0yed by fire on February 14, 1949. Under the guidance of Father Hugo Backes, the present Church was built and dedicated to the service of God on November 24, 1959. The present membership is 160+ families. We thank God for our many blessings over the years.
