St. Catherine's Catholic Church Lomice

St. Catherine's Church was dedicated July 1, 1936. The foundation for this mission was laid July 17, 1934 under the supervision of the late Joseph Vitek.
Joseph Pesek donated the grounds. Credit for the architecture goes to the late Rev. V.F. Mikoiasek.
Native stone was used in building the walls of the church. The stone was gathered by the congregation from their own farmland. Most of the labor was donated by the local parishioners.
The church is patterned after the style commonly seen in Czechoslovakia.
The first people to settle the community of Lomice in Sauter Township of Walsh County came from Lomice. Czechoslovakia near Treban between the years 1886 to 1889. This is where the name originated from.
The mission of Lomice located southeast of Lawton, N.D., is a historical site, preserved in Czech spirit, by the dedicated parishioners.

Saint Catherine Church, Lomice was established on Jul 17, 1934, by Joseph Vitek (1886-1949). The church is a one and one-half story late Gothic Revival style building constructed in the years 1936-1938 on land settled by Czech immigrants. The building is constructed of randomly coursed granite fieldstone. The design of the grounds containing one large grotto and three small grottos, complements this Roman Catholic parochial church building by regional architect Joseph Bell DeRemer of Grand Forks.
