From the beginnings of the Northside Sunday School came the organization of Messiah Lutheran Church on January 8, 1950, with 57 adults and 43 children. In 1952 the first church building was completed at 16th Avenue and 5th Street, North, and with the rapid growth in membership, the present church was built at 21st Avene and Elm Street, North, and dedicated on January 12, 1964.

The pastors of Messiah Lutheran Church have been Rev. Vernon W. Johnson, 1950-1957; Rev. Drell E. Bernhardson; and Rev. Harry E. Olson, Jr., 1961-
