Maria Lutheran Church of Kennedy, Minnesota was organized in December 1893. The first church was completed in 1900. She was part of a three-church parish including East Emmaus and West Emmaus churches. In 1900 the Dorcas Society purchased a bell for the church. A basement was put under the church and a circulating furnace was installed in 1916. In 1923 a parsonage was built to house the pastor and family. Zion Lutheran Church of Kennedy voted to dissolve in 1948 and most of the members joined Maria. In 1954 a parish hall was added using some of the material from the dismantled Zion Church. Maria became a one church parish in 1962. On October 23, 1966, the cornerstone was laid for the new church which was completed in 1967. A mortgage burning ceremony was held October 3, 1976. In 1977 the old parsonage was sold, and a new one was built next to the new church.
