The First Lutheran congregation of Rugby, North Dakota was organized in 1898, and they built the first church in 1903. Thru the years the congregation grew until a larger building was needed. Groundbreaking for our present church was held on Sunday, March 29, 1953, and construction started that spring. Services were held in the basement of our new church December 6, 1953, and in the nave February 14, 1954. Dedication services held on May 20, 1956. The following pastors have served this congregation: M.O. Silseth, J.F. Swenson, David Svennungson, P.P. Houglum, M.N. Knutson, G.A. Larsen, R.T. Wanberg, A.A. Nelson, Hans Houghland, O.O. Brandt, and E.N. Nelson. Our present pastor is Erling Aarthun.
