Hoya sp. Gunung Gading 'Ghost'
Purchased cutting from Jackie June 2026
Picture
Hoya sp. Gunung Gading 'Ghost' is a climbing Hoya with silvery-green, mottled foliage from Borneo, prized for its ghostly leaves and trailing growth habit.

Appearance and Features
  • Hoya sp. Gunung Gading 'Ghost' is known for its elongated, lightly textured leaves that emerge in pale silvery-green tones with irregular mottling and soft splash patterns, giving it a “ghostly” appearance.
  • New growth often looks brighter and more clouded, while mature leaves maintain subtle, layered variations. The plant produces long, slender vines suitable for climbing or trailing, highlighting the contrast between individual leaves.
  • In some cases, sun exposure can stress the leaves, revealing silvery or pinkish/red hints in the color, a natural adaptation like sun-stressed foliage in other Hoyas.
Origin
  • This species is native to Gunung Gading National Park in Sarawak, Borneo, Malaysia and belongs to the Finlaysonii complex of Hoyas. Its unique leaf patterns and moderate growth habits make it highly collectible.
Care Requirements
  • Light - Prefers bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct intense light that may burn leaves; a spot less than 3 feet from a south-facing window is ideal.
  • Watering - Grows best in well-draining soil and should be watered sparingly, allowing soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to leaf dropping and root issues.
  • Soil - Use a mix rich in organic material with perlite or vermiculite to improve drainage.
  • Humidity and Temperature - Moderate humidity and warm environments support growth. Avoid low temperatures below 60°F and maintain airflow to prevent fungal problems.
