Hoff Lutheran Church
Heimdal, North Dakota
1899-1999
In the early 1890's Norse Lutherans began to settle in North Central Wells County. At that time there were no churches in the immediate area, so those families seeking a church were associated with Vang Church in Manfred.
In 1899 these families decided to associate with the Synod of the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America.
On July 20, 1899, a group of men, under the guidance of the Rev. T.T. Wipperud, met at the Ole Iverson home in Heimdal Township to organize a congregation. The name chosen for the newly organized congregation was Hoff Norwegian Lutheran Congregation. It was named after a church in Toten, Norway.
Many improvements and additions have been made since the church was built; including a Hammond Organ, a complete remodeling of the basement, adding restrooms, installation of an oil furnace and an addition which enlarges the entrance of the church.
