GOL LUTHERAN CHURCH
In January 1880, several families living in the southwestern part of the Sheyenne Parish held a meeting to organize a separate Congregation. They adopted the name Gol Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Congregation because so many of the members had come from Gol, Hallingdal in Norway. Services were held in schoolhouses until in 1892 when a church building was erected at a cost of $4,200.00 on an acre of land given to the congregation by Jens Olson. A windstorm in the 1920's weakened the structure so it was decided to dismantle it and build a new church on the same site. This was done in 1930 at a cost of $9,647.00. The same pulpit, Baptismal font, altar and altar rail which were used in the first church are still in use today. Improvements have been made throughout the years. In 1979 a new front entrance was added. The 100th anniversary of the congregation is being celebrated June 13, 14 and 15, 1980. Present pastor is Ralph Egbert who has served since 1976.
