First Presbyterian Church 1880-1980 Mapleton, North Dakota
Our first church service was conducted by a Pioneer Missionary O. H. Elmer in 1871.
The church was organized October 30, 1880, with Rev. D. C. Lyons, Synodical Missionary, and Rev. J. H. Baldwin of Tower City, Jamestown churches officiating with 20 members and 46 in Sunday School.
The First Church building was erected and dedicated in 1883.
In 1930 we celebrated our 50th Anniversary October 30 through November 3 with a huge jubilee in the Mapleton Community Hall. Rev. E. J. Meyers was our pastor.
From 1936 to 1946 our church shared ministerial services with West Fargo. However, on July 2, 1946, we dissolved partnership and united with Casselton Presbyterian Church, C. A. L. Johnson, Pastor, of which we continue to be a ministerial partner.
On May 8, 1949, formal dedication of our newly remodeled church was held together with the burning of the mortgage.
Our 75th Anniversary was held October 3, 1955. with Rev. William Reiker as pastor at the celebration.
June 29, 1980, our church began its centennial celebration with a special service, followed by special events periodically leading to the jubilee celebration October 26.
Membership is 94, Sunday school 19 pupils.
Lorna and Jerry Kuyk were our pastors.
