The First Lutheran Church was formed on September 17, 1917, through the merger of the First Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church and St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Land was purchased for a new church on the corner of Broadway and Seventh Avenue North. The first service in the new church was held in the basement on Christmas Day, 1919, with the first service in the sanctuary one year later.
