The East Wiota Lutheran Church is the oldest Lutheran Church in actual use today, built by the Norwegians in America.
The Wiota Congregation was organized in 1844. Services were held in the open and also in homes.
Work was started in 1847 toward building the church and completed in 1851.
The cost of the church as completed in 1851 was $933.00.
Additional building and remodeling have been done at different times.
The Ladie's Aid of East Wiota was organized the 8th of October 1884.
Mrs. Augusta Saevig, wife of Pastor O.M. Saevig was the first President, Miss Oline Ensberg, Vice President, Ingeborg Tollakson, Secretary and Treasurer.
At this time the Wiota Congregation consisted of one group. Later the West group built their own church of which Wiota Congregation now consists of East and West Lutheran Churches.
