Crystal Springs is located along Interstate 94, 7.6 miles (12.2 km) east of Tappen. A post office called Crystal Springs was established in 1884 and remained in operation until 1993.

The Crystal Springs Methodist Church was organized July, 1921 in the Crystal Springs School house with five charter members: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Giesler, Mr. and Mrs. George Mahin and Staley Mahin.
The first summer a minister from Dawson pastored the church. Then in 1922 Rev. Oscar H. Swenson was sent from the Methodist Conference and remained there until 1928. He was followed by Rev. Theure Johnson. Rev. Farthing came as our Pastor in 1934 and in '35 Rev. Van Ness Chappell came from Florida. A very outstanding young man of twenty-one years who preached at the Crystal Springs School House for three years. Several ministers followed. In 1944 a plot of land was given to us on the west side of the road, across from the schoolhouse for a church. We were very grateful for this very fine gift. The church men and others who were interested in the Community soon had the basement dug. John and Ed Kapp with the help of the church men moved the Sherman Church from 13 miles northwest of Steele to the lots. It was some time before the basement was finished and the church moved onto it. A great deal of repairing was necessary to make the building ready for worship services. Most of this labor was done by those attending the church, both men and women.
Ralph E. Rowe was Pastor at this time and being a good carpetner, as well, helped a great deal in finishing the work. It was completed and dedicated July 16th, 1950. What a happy, thankful church group we were. It was wonderful to have such a sacred place to worship. Our hearts were full of praise to God for it. At this time there were nine families who were faithfully attending and supporting the church. The first wedding ceremony solemnized in the church was July 6, 1951, when Viola Simmons became the bride of Gideon Schlecht. The second wedding solemnized, there was less than one month later when Edith Anne Mahin became the bride of Ward Whitman, August 4, 1951. Fred Dollivers funeral was the first one to be held in the church. Paul Pepoon who was Pastor conducted the service.
Rev. Grant Carlson taught the first Confirmation class terminating July 17, I960 with 14 young people being confirmed. At the present time the Sunday School enrollment is fifty-eight. Rev. Norman Shaweshuck is the Pastor.
