Organized 1889
The Congregational Church, organized with seven members, August 4, 1889, and incorporated, September 8, 1893, was Williston’s first Church. The first “meeting house,” a former school, burned in September 1894, a church being built in 1895 where the Federal Building stands. The present church was completed in April 1914, ready for services on Easter; the cornerstone was laid, September 28, 1913. Andrew H. Nelson, the first resident minister, came in 1891. Dr. John A. Abel was called in 1948, continuing the church’s honored service to individuals and the community.

This was Williston's first church. The religious organization of the church was undertaken by two Congregational ministers, the Rev. William Ewing and the Rev. E. H. Stickney. Both were officials in the national Congregational Church organization. The Williston Congregational Church came into being Aug. 4, 1889.
