Church of the Annunciation
by Rose Miller and Jo Erhardt
The Church of the Annunciation, in the community of Yucca, was located on land donated by Mike Koch in section 34-142-82. The members built the church, which was dedicated on November 11, 1915. Father Weidmann from Sweetbriar was the priest at this time. The resident priest from the Rosebud community served the church from 1916 to 1920. Then for one year it was served by a Bismarck priest. In late 1921 and early 1922, the priest from Hazen served the Yucca community; then the Center priest served the parish until sometime in 1923, when Huff became the mother' church, and served them until 1927. The pastor at Center assumed the duties of the mission church at Yucca from 1927 to 1940. At that time, the church was closed, leaving the faithful parishioners to seek a permanent parish home either at Center or Mandan, depending upon the direction and distance they had from those new prospects.
Some members were: Koch, Himmelspach, Bauer, Fix, Writz, Yanzter, Boardman, Dessen, Matz. In 1941, when the Center congregation took over, the building was to be moved to Center to enlarge their church, but they finally tore it down and sold it to Peter Yantzer. The Center congregation is responsible for the upkeep of the cemetery.
