BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH
Bethel Lutheran Church history will be rather brief, due to not being able to locate the minutes of the church council. The church building was moved from its rural location in Kidder County near Persian Lake, about 15 miles east of Moffit, ND, in the spring of 1962. Our choir was under the direction of Mrs. Robert Salhus. Organists were Eileen Porter, Lonnie (Agnew) Privratsky, Norma (Fried) Knutson, and Delrene Mills. Mrs. Pederson and Mrs. Nelson played when the girls were unable to do so. Women of the church held monthly meetings in the homes.
Census taken in 1970 showed 43 members. In prior years there was a membership of 65. During the active years of the church, 35 members were confirmed and 41 members baptized. Pastors who served Bethel were Reinhart G. Pederson, Larry D. Nelson and Gary Hagen. Pastor Nelson's wife directed cantatas at Easter and Christmas time, with members from Bethel and Kintyre congregations participating. The pastors commuted from Kintyre to Moffit for services at Bethel. The church was closed in 1972 and the building and property were sold. I've taken information from the membership ledger and the rest is to the best of my ability.
